Tutorial!

I've long admired this chair from Squint.... ever since it was first featured in Kirsty's Homemade House ( or is it Handmade Home?) last year. The price was prohibitive then.... and thanks to my mentor, The Upholstress, I've since discovered how to go about making one just like this for myself........So, I'll add this one to my DIY upholstery wish list and look out for a suitable chair to recover.
I came across this Tutorial recently - for a student of upholstery like myself, it gives a great (and quaint!) overview of how to upholster a chair...... the proper way x

The bed of my dreams

Isn't this bed just gorgeous? I'd love to have a go at upholstering one just like this - a great project to help me master deep-buttoning!

Missing my chesterfield

Today, I must be strong! I have enforced a day off from my upholstery training and am having severe chesterfield withdrawal symptoms........Having worked on my Victorian Chesterfied for 5 days now, I'm really pleased with the way this baby is shaping up and can't wait to post some photos of the finished piece. Hope to finish this project next week so that I can move on to the next one! It's a coincidece that Julie from Belle Maison has posted this morning on her love for the Chesterfield Sofa, take a look and share in the love!

Wow! This lady could teach me a thing or two! See her stunning upholstery projects in her blog.

Another project .....................

Good Morning,
I'm preparing for another day at "School" today,I'm off to see The Upholstress for my next installment of knowledge- I'm learning the craft of Traditional Upholstery! I can't wait actually, it's not so much like going to school as I can't remember lessons ever being like this! I get to choose and create my next piece of gorgeousness for my home, so it's a bit like going shopping really.. I've always loved sofas and chairs and here's my chance to indulge my passion for these pieces. I saw this picture today in "Ada and Darcy" and feel it will provide inspiration for a French style sofa I'm going to create in the near future.......

In the beginning.....

This is the chair that got me started! From its humble beginning as a tired old auction find, it has been restored and re-stlyed into this splendid and unique armchair for my bedroom....and I love it. I'll show you how I did this in future posts. Join me as I learn a new craft and see how I use these lovely pieces to update my home style.
